U12 vs. Brentham match report

The u/12s played their first game of the year against Brentham away on Tuesday 1st May, a League match on a very cold evening.

Our boys are mostly our u/11s, one of whom is u/10 (admittedly our newest Middlesex recruit), Sam Fancombe, and features only two actual u/12s.

The boys had a very good win against a team who were not at the same standard as our boys, either as a team or as individuals but who kept at their task and played with great humour. Brentham batted first and were 73/9 off their 18 overs with the Acton boys getting the runs in 8 overs for the loss of no wickets (although the openers were retired when the score reached 50).

There were some excellent bowling performances Luke Shenley (who at one stage was 2-2-0-2) Henry Turner and Henry Gill, all of whom bowled with some pace and good line, length and each took 2 wickets in their 3 overs all being bowled. Fred Websper, who had never bowled in a match before but who worked very hard over the winter, took a wicket with his first ball again bowled. Jasper “I love playing for Acton” Pryce-Jones and Louis Bonetti - both of whom bowl “chinamen” - each took a wicket. The fielding was of a good standard. Most pleasing, the Brentham coaches and supporters commented on the good standard of the fielding and the boys’ organisation and talking in the field.

Ed Bennet and Tayyab (Kash’s son) Malik opened the batting and took us to 50 before being retired and both batted well except their running between wickets could have been better.

Best moment for coach was Seb Vidal bowling the last over of the Brentham innings. Seb bowls without confidence but has great potential. The last over of the innings is the only over when wides and no-balls are re-bowled – pressure for a young man who is not used to it – Seb kept his head and bowled a fine over.

Onto Ealing next week – always a tight match.
