2018 club development plan

Dear member,

Below is an overview of the Club’s Development Plan for 2018. We continue to push forward together as a club, and this year two of our senior teams – our 2nd XI and 3rd XI – will compete in the premier division of Middlesex County League cricket for the fist time in our history. Together, we will look to build on our achievements both on and off the field in the coming year for the benefits of junior and senior members, existing and new members alike.

Please refresh yourself of our club constitution and club policies which are available on the Our Club section of the website.

2018 development plan:

Acton C.C. is run by an active committee comprising a diverse range of members representing all areas of the Club. Everyday club matters and decisions are covered by the committee whilst major club decisions are taken to the AGM, or EGM if necessary, for all club members to decide upon.

Acton CC is in a unique situation with The Park Club being our parent partner in an arrangement similar to the Middlesex CCC and MCC partnership. This takes away several of the more significant financial costs that a club usually has occur around ground maintenance, rent, rates, and so on.

Our primary income is from club subscriptions, of which a percentage is given to The Park Club. Sponsorship is another source but is increasingly difficult to generate. Fortunately, we have a current, supportive and highly valued sponsor in The Aeronaut, a local pub, restaurant and venue.

The Park Club is a source of new members for Acton C.C., especially in our thriving junior section. With The Park Club’s involvement with local schools and our supply of coaches we have a steady flow of new members joining our junior section. However, due to the close proximity of other well-established clubs in the area who have long-term relationships with schools and their own huge academies, Acton C.C. does struggle to regularly field sides above the 13 year old age group. This is compounded by the fact that a large percentage of our juniors attend boarding schools impacting their availability. Improving the club’s performance in junior cricket from 13 year old upwards is a major focus for the committee in the coming years.

On the senior members front, The Park Club also supplies a reasonable stream of new club members although the high security and access control does restrict our passing trade. New members of all ages and abilities are always welcome at Acton CC., however currently we are in a position where we are not having to actively recruit new senior members to the club as we are at near capacity and do not have the facilities to expand beyond our steady organic growth. Should our numbers decline, we would return to advertising in the local press and around local businesses and push harder on our tried and tested ” bring a friend” policy with existing members. The club consistently fields four senior teams on a Saturday in league cricket and often two on a Sunday.

Acton CC has a thriving social scene with everyone welcome. We run three main social events each year: the annual Race Night, Darts Night and 6-a-side and awards night. For the juniors we have a Colts Day at the end of July. All members are invited and welcome to the many events that The Park Club hosts throughout the year, with the annual fireworks display being one of the main highlights.

Our club exists to provide competitive, social and fun cricket to the local community, above all in a safe, friendly and inclusive environment.
